International Gastronomy Students visit Goolwa
Each year, students from the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Bra, Italy visit South Australia as part of their studies.
The University of Gastronomic Sciences is dedicated to "training young people to produce, prepare, distribute and promote food products while learning about the complex world of wine and gastronomy" in a three year program for food professionals.
Started by Slow Food and the Italian regions of Piemonte and Emilia-Romagna, the University of Gastronomic Sciences is located within the historic Agenzia di Pollenzo, a local agricultural association founded by King Carlo Alberto of Savoy in 1942 in a neo-Gothic estate dating from 1833.
Students visit the Barossa Valley, Adelaide City, Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale and the Fleurieu Peninsula. Goolwa welcomes these students and introduces them to our local produce. Citttaslow Goolwa Food and Wine group hosts our guests in the Steam Exchange Brewery and they learn about the production of ales. They taste local produce which includes cheeses, olive oil and have a fish and chip meal at a seaside cafe in Port Elliot.
