What We Do
Cittaslow Goolwa volunteers are involved in setting up and running a wide range of programs that encompass the broad scope of Cittaslow principles.
The Core Program comprises our ongoing activities and services that operate out of premises leased from Alexandrina Council: Cittaslow Corner (shopfront); Community Garden; and Producers and Artisans Market.
Underpinning these are the administrative management of the data base and registration and Membership Services including ‘How To…’ program coordination, and Newsletters.
Alongside the core program are the member interest groups which is where our members come together to share and generate ideas for initiatives, organise activities and events and follow up on priority issues informed by Cittaslow principles.
The Food and Wine Group coordinates and staffs most of our main public events including seasonal public gatherings such as 'At the Wharf' and 'Smoke Off', incorporating local food, beverages and music, as well as one-off events like the Locavore Lunch at Currency Creek.
Note: All Cittaslow events are subject to applicable Covid-19 restrictions.
The Environment Group is responsible for greening projects, regular community clean-ups, as well as educating the wider community about issues such as recycling and sustainability and working with school students on environmental and greening projects.
From time-to-time Cittaslow Goolwa launches special projects: an example of these is the Cittaslow Friendship Seat, a prominent public art installation in the heart of Goolwa.
Our active Community Engagement role sees us cooperating with many groups and organisations to extend our reach in the community. Our incorporated status enables us to support emerging and informal community committees in an auspicing capacity, for instance the inaugural Vogalonga Down Unda (2020) and the New Year Fireworks. We also cooperate with other groups such as the Goolwa Community Centre, Lions and Whalers to support local community members.
Cittaslow volunteers participate in major Community Events run by Council and other groups including the SA Wooden Boat Festival, Christmas Pageant and the Deadly Fun Run.
